    Safe power supply to evacuation sluice gates that ensures water level in the dam is not exceeding dangerous levels.

    When the turbine shaft bearing is in need of constant lubrication, UMD™ can be utilized to ensure lubrication and oil cooling are working with maximum reliability.
  3. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
    Backing up hydraulic systems with UMD™ ensures that a variety of functions in the power station will be available even during utility power outage.
  4. DRAINAGE PUMP
    By securing the operation of drainage pumps, the shaft seal leakage water will always be kept at a desirable level.

    The substations monitoring, safety and protection systems are powered by a DC-system with stationary battery. KraftPowercons DC-systems can be suited to local needs and standards.   • SHAFT SEAL PUMP / SHAFT SEAL BOOSTER PUMP
    Shaft seals pumps are critical for pump hydro turbines. To avoid leakage, our UMD™ system provides uninterruptible power to the seal pumps.
  • BYPASS GATES
    Bypass gates are used for safe start and shut off of high head Pelton turbines. Our UMD™ provides backup power to guaranteed operation of the bypass gates.

UMD™ systems utilize proven and field tested uninterruptible power supply principles that achieve unmatched reliability.

In-line Integrated VFD’s allow precise motor control

UMD™ utilizes field-proven, high-quality VFD’s. All the advantages of VFD operation also applies to the UMD™. That includes: limiting start currents, starting at maximum torque, precise speed control, energy savings etc. At Direct On Line start of an induction motor, the inrush current can be up to 9 times of the nominal current. The UMD™ with its internal VFD solves the problem and realize the motor’s full potential.

Eliminates Single Point of Failure

The UMD™ system is designed to remove all Single Points of Failure. Traditional UPS systems must be doubled or excessively oversized to achieve the same safety level.

Complete factory tested UMD system

UMD™ is delivered as one complete MCC-unit. Type tested according to IEC, UL, CSA and other applicable standards. The system has single or redundant mains input breakers, battery charger, AC and DC busbars, and the required motor drive outputs. In addition, it can be extended to backup all AC and DC auxiliary loads.

As a result of this several complex engineering activities including battery sizing, power loss calculations, motor protection settings, fuse selectivity in distribution board, can be eliminated. It also allows for fast and straightforward installation and commissioning that can be performed by local technicians.

Uninterruptible power for motor drives (UMD™)

UMD™ is a system intended for the uninterruptible operation of three phase AC-motors. It is based on frequency converters that can be powered not only from the existing mains drive but also from batteries. The system contains the required number of drives, battery and internal distribution of AC, DC power and control circuits. The system is fed by one single or dual mains supply. Each output to the electrical motor is fully controlled by bus or hardwired interface and protection of cable and motor.

DC-System

The Power Center is a complete modular system for highly flexible output power and easy service. Complete with rectifiers, batteries, battery fuse box, distribution boards and monitoring mounted in a cabinet. The batteries can also be placed in their own rack next to the cabinet. The system has a modular design to enable easy adaptation to the existing needs of the installation.
